Privacy Policy — Shooting Time

Shooting Time is a hunting-alarm and planning app. This policy explains what data the app uses and, just as importantly, what it does not do with it.

Summary

• Your location never leaves your device except in the two specific, narrow cases described below.
• There is no user account, no sign-in, and no analytics or advertising SDK of any kind in this app.
• All of your data (presets, saved locations, alarm settings, supply lists) is stored only in local app storage on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes it.

What the app accesses, and why

Location (GPS). Used to calculate sunrise, sunset, moonlight, and twilight times for wherever you are, and to fetch the weather forecast for that spot. You can instead manually pin a location on the map (e.g. to plan for a stand you aren't currently at), which is used the same way. Location data is processed on-device for the sunrise/sunset/moon math — that part never touches the network at all.

Weather forecast (Open-Meteo). When you open the Weather tab, your current latitude/longitude is sent over HTTPS to Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com), a free public weather API, to retrieve the forecast. Open-Meteo does not require or receive any account information, name, or device identifier from this app — only the coordinates needed to answer "what's the forecast here." Map tiles (OpenStreetMap). The location-picker map loads map imagery from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. Loading any map tile necessarily sends a request (including your device's IP address, as with any web request) to OpenStreetMap's servers for the visible map area. No search text, account, or other personal data is sent — only which map tiles are currently on screen.

Reverse geocoding (nearest-city label). To show a human-readable place name (e.g. "Sioux Falls, SD") instead of raw coordinates, the app asks your device's built-in geocoding service to look up the nearest city for a given latitude/longitude. This uses whatever geocoding service your Android device is already configured to use at the OS level — the app itself does not operate or receive data from a geocoding server.

What the app stores, and where

Everything else — your alarm schedule, custom shooting-time presets, wake- up calculator plan, supply checklists, saved named locations, and cached weather — is stored locally on your device only, using standard Android app storage. None of it is uploaded, backed up to a server, or shared with any third party. It is deleted when you uninstall the app.

Permissions this app requests, and why

• Location — see above.
• Notifications — required (Android 13+) to show the alert when a scheduled alarm fires.
• Exact alarms — required so a scheduled alarm fires at the precise time you set, rather than being delayed by the OS's default battery- saving alarm batching.
• Ignore battery optimizations — requested once, optionally, so some device manufacturers' aggressive background battery management doesn't silently prevent a scheduled alarm from firing.

Third-party services this app talks to

• Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com) — weather forecast data.
• OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org) — map tile imagery for the location picker.

Neither service is paid for or configured with any account by this app, and neither receives any identifying information beyond what's described above.

Children's privacy

This app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If what the app collects or how it's used ever changes, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change accordingly.
